Richard Morgan is currently Organist and Choir Director of Sacred Heart Church in Savannah. A native of Iowa, Mr. Morgan holds an undergraduate degree in Church Music from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa and a Master of Music degree from Yale University in New Haven, Conn. As a young student he won first prize in numerous organ competitions and studied with several prominent organists, including Carl Staplin and Arthur Poister at Drake, Charles Krigbaum at Yale and André Marchal in Paris. More recently, he has continued to study conducting by observing and working (in residence) with such notable English Conductors as Malcolm Archer and Ralph Allwood. Before moving to Savannah in September, 2016, Mr. Morgan served as Director of Music and Organist at St. John on the Mountain in Bernardsville, NJ, Associate Organist at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Parsippany and Artistic Director of the Chorus of Communities in Nutley, NJ. After moving to New Jersey in 1978 he served for 25 years at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morristown and for 6 years at St. James Episcopal Church in Upper Montclair, NJ. Mr. Morgan is an accomplished accompanist and vocal coach and frequent organ recitalist. He is a new member of the Savannah Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
